I’ll be back (as a customer)
Microsoft’s got my address, Adobe’s got my address, so does Apple and at least ten more big software companies. I gave it to them while registering my products.
Today I recieved a handwritten (!) postcard (!!) from a friendly software-publisher Bee Docs saying “Thank You, Anatol” for buying his 50-bucks-software. No ad, no catalogue, just “Thank You”. Not only being overwhelmed by this politeness, it raised the question: What the heck are all the big companies doing keep the customers happy? I bought very, very, very expensive Adobe-License, got dead-cheap packaging, no documentation – and no postcard or personal contact whatsoever.
And it’s not all about the old fashioned way of saying “thanks for shopping”. But when it comes to upgrading to a new version, I’ll be back with Bee Docs – this sort of personal contact just feels right – but I’ll skip Adobes CS4. And not only for the hefty price tag.
Folks: Keep your customers happy. Send postcards.
